Welcome Literary Agents
We admire and respect the job you do in representing authors to various publishers. We can forge a successful partnership that will benefit both you and your authors.
In today's publishing market, you may be throwing away opportunities—actually leaving money on the table—because larger publishers refuse to take chances on unknown authors, despite their talent and marketability.
We offer an alternative: bring your authors to MJSPG and we'll publish them. After we've established a track record of sales, you and your author will be free to move to a larger venue, if you choose.
To see how we work with individual authors, please see our Authors Page.
Here's how the MJSPG process works:
At the beginning, when MJSPG agrees to publish your author's work, we will determine the costs and budget for the project. The author's costs will include reasonable fees that will be repaid once his/her book starts to sell. After these initial fees are repaid to the author and production costs are covered, the author will receive a percentage of sales in regular royalties (percentage of net sales.) You will receive a commission based on net sales.
- Step 1
Follow the query process described in the Submission Guidelines. When you receive notification that we'd like to review your author's material, send us the manuscript.
- Step 2
We will read the submission and do some preliminary market research to determine the book's salability. We will consult with you about where you think the book fits in the marketplace. We will contact you within six weeks about the publishability and marketability of your book.
- Step 3
Publication of your author's book is a mutual decision. While the author continues to write and refine his/her work, MJSPG will fashion a contract. Here, authors always keep the rights to their work. Your contract will include the price structure for the particular project, author royalty arrangements, agent commission, and breakdown of production costs for the book.
- Step 4
Together we will determine a workable schedule for the book's completion. This schedule includes every detail from the moment we receive the final manuscript to when the book actually arrives in stores and online outlets.
- Step 5
When the complete manuscript is received by MJSPG, we will work directly with the author on the production phase of the project. At the same time, MJSPG will:
- Complete a preliminary marketing plan for the book (changes may be required as the project evolves) for your review. We will take into consideration all the efforts you believe are necessary to sell the work
- Engage our distribution network in getting sales for the book before it is published
- Initiate discussions with our designers regarding schedule, page layout, and cover design
- Step 6
Galleys of the pages will be sent to you for your review, if you desire.
- Step 7
The designer will send you two cover treatments for your approval, if you desire.
- Step 8
Final pages and the final cover will be sent to you for your review, if you desire. This will be your last opportunity to see the pages before they are printed, so complete attention to all textual and graphic details is required at this point.
- Step 9
The last changes will be incorporated into your manuscript and another set of final pages will be generated and bound with the final version of the cover. These pages will be sent to book reviewers and to our distribution network.
- Step 10
Digital files are generated and sent to our printer; ISBN and bar code are applied.
- Step 11
Your book is printed, shipped to the distributor, to the author, and to stores. At the same time, the book will be listed on the MJSPG website for sale; implementation of the marketing plan begins; copyright is applied for.
- Step 12
MJSPG will pay your commission every six months; royalties will be paid to authors quarterly according to sales.
